SXSW Interview: Director Nick Clifford on His Love for Time Loops and Getting Creative with ‘One More Shot’

In Nick Clifford’s One More Shot, it’s New Year’s Eve in 1999, and Minnie (Emily Browning) hasn’t had a great day. After she’s introduced to her ex’s new girlfriend, she takes a shot of tequila only to discover that it takes her back to the start of the night. Rather than try to escape this time loop, she sets out to find a way to convince Joe (Sean Keenan) that he should be with her, over and over again.

Awards Buzz spoke with Clifford about his favorite time loop movies and what elements he wanted to preserve in this fresh take. Watch the video above to hear about the challenges of staging (almost) the same scene repeatedly and the joy of working with Browning.

One More Shot makes its world premiere in the Narrative Spotlight section at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival.
