In Wayward, Alex (Mae Martin) moves with his wife Laura (Sarah Gadon) to Tall Pines, the place where she grew up and attended a reform school run by Evelyn Wade (Toni Collette). As Alex investigates a runaway student and becomes suspicious of the true nature of this school and surrounding town, best friends Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind) and Abbie (Sydney Topliffe) end up at Tall Pines Academy against their wills and eager to escape.
Awards Buzz spoke with Alyn Lind about working with typically friendly faces like Patrick J. Adams and Toni Collette and how the filming experience didn’t line up with the eerier show that was eventually produced:
“Filming it was such an interesting experience because I don’t think anybody truly knew how scary it was going to read. Watching the final outcome, it’s like, you’re really on the edge of your seat. I remember reading the scripts and wanting more and more and more at the end of every episode, but the way that it was filmed and the way the editing team and post-production contributed, it’s extremely suspenseful in a lot of different moments where I didn’t even know there was going to be that much suspense built. It’s even better than I could possibly have imagined. On set, it was very much best friends laughing in between every single take and just basically a summer camp. We had the best, most incredible time. Definitely not an abusive reform school.”
