In the fifth and final season of The Boys, it’s the last standoff between good and evil as a long-in-the-works plan to kill Homelander for good is met with countless obstacles, betrayals, and blood-soaked deaths. This show, known for its crazy moments, goes even more all-out than ever before as it signs off for good.
Beware spoilers for the first episode of The Boys season five below.
Awards Buzz spoke with Antony Starr and Jessie T. Usher about the fact that Homelander was the one to kill A-Train. Starr emphasized that it did feel different than his many other kills:
“Of course, because Jess is one of the OGs of the whole show, and he’s one of the Seven from day one. And we’ve had such a great time together as humans and actors, and as characters, it’s been such an interesting trip that they’ve gone on, so it was pretty strange to read that. And I didn’t know. Jess knew a long time before, but I didn’t, and then to see it and it’s like, oh my god, no! What are you doing? So, yeah, it was pretty strange, but also, something like that had to happen, and it had to happen to someone that everyone loves. Unfortunately, that’s drama and, with a lot of shows, that’s the way things go. What I do love is the way that we get to that point. I feel like, from my perspective, A-Train wins. I feel like Homie loses, even though he wins. It’s like Homie is the strongest man but the weakest person, and I think in that moment, he physically breaks you down, but you win.”
Usher echoed that sentiment:
“I agree. And to be mentioned amongst the slain bodies of Homelander is an honor. I would rather that happen than to be off the show because of a heart attack or something like that. I feel like being able to face the monster in that moment and then have those final moments of clarity, and we just have this deep unspoken connection where, like you say, it’s a battle of okay, who’s going to come out on top of that moment? It was deep.”
