In Claudio Bellante’s Don Q, an aging Little Italy resident has convinced himself that he’s a mafia kingpin, playing out and becoming wrapped up in his delusion in his own mind. Who better for this role than Armand Assante, the veteran actor best known for his mobster performances in films like HBO’s Gotti?
Awards Buzz spoke with Assante about how the fantasy this protagonist engages in is a common one that’s been built up by romanticized media portrayals of the mob. Watch the video above to hear about working on a microbudget and the passion that he and Bellante put into this project.
