Interview: Camille Wormser, Alec Goldberg, and Vivian Kerr on Relating to their Characters in the ‘Soft Boil’ Pilot

In Soft Boil, Lulu (Camille Wormser) experiences some severe relationship trouble at the same time that she’s interviewing to be a nanny for Christy (Vivian Kerr), who isn’t particularly impressed but, like Lulu, doesn’t have many great options.

Awards Buzz spoke to Wormser, Kerr, and director Alec Goldberg about how this project came together. Goldberg shared:

“I met Camille, she had a film in the same block as mine. Her film was Just Right, I thought it was brilliant, she was hilarious, and started working on this concept where I wanted her to star in something. I think this was kind of a connection point for both of us in this world of pursuing whatever it is that we’re pursuing. It was a lot of our experiences combined and blended and new things added and just the struggle of being a late twenties, early thirties person, especially in this world and industry. I think we just started adding things and things came together as we went through it.”

Wormser said that maybe she used to be like Lulu but fortunately now has her life more together, while Kerr felt Lulu reminded her of the character she played in Scrap. On finding the right audience for this film, Goldberg stressed:

“I think Camille is such a special unique comedic voice and I think the most important thing in an audience is that they connect with that. Whether or not they see themselves as better or worse, I’ll let them figure that out. But, yeah, I think it’s obviously a very specific type of awkward comedy that I feel like is becoming more widely accepted now. I hope that the audience connects to that.”

Soft Boil makes its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival as part of the Episodic Fiction Pilot Showcase.
