Interview: Colin Hanks, Chris Candy & Jennifer Candy-Sullivan on Looking at a Legend in ‘John Candy: I Like Me’

It’s hard to think of comedy royalty without immediately picturing John Candy — the lovable everyman whose heart was as big as his laugh. And now, thanks to John Candy: I Like Me, a moving and meticulously crafted documentary, fans old and new get to revisit the man behind the magic.

With its title pulled directly from one of Candy’s most iconic characters, Del Griffith in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, the film offers nostalgia, insight, and humanity. It’s a celebration of a legacy that still looms large in Hollywood and beyond.

Director Colin Hanks, along with co-executive producers Chris Candy and Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, are at the heart of the documentary. They bring more than talent to the table. They bring their love for a man who meant so much to so many. After all, their fathers didn’t just work together, they helped shape comedic cinema.

In this conversation with Awards Buzz’s Sari Cohen, the trio opens up about the vision for the film, how the title found them, and what they believe John himself might say about it all.
