In season two of Prime Video’s Fallout, Barb Howard ( Frances Turner) makes an important discovery about what’s actually going on at Vault-Tec which threatens the stability of her marriage to Cooper (Walton Goggins) but has even larger implications for the future of civilization.
Awards Buzz spoke with Turner about the character traits of Barb’s that she likes best:
“I love that there’s a real softness and tenderness to her. I love that she feels a great sense of responsibility for the people she loves. She’s driven by wanting to protect her husband, her daughter, the people she loves. And, yes, she’s smart and she’s capable and she’s strategic, all of those things, but her strength exists because of her softness and those are the things that she’s trying to protect. I was intentional about not presenting her in a way that is only about strength. You really see safety when she’s with Cooper and Janey. The Vault-Tec Barb, I think, falls away in those moments and you really see who she is at her core and you see all the reasons why Cooper loves her and admires her and respects her. You can tell that he respects her and they each have the thing that the other one doesn’t have enough of. She’s very complex. She’s very multi-dimensional, so it’s hard to say just one thing that I love about her. I love how all of those things work together because it’s very human, because otherwise she’s just a mustache-twirling baddie, and I don’t think she’s that easy to categorize because she is making real choices out of fear, out of love and out of protection. My job as the actor is to really investigate not whether her choices are right or wrong but why does she feel like she has to make those decisions.”
Watch the video above to hear how she’d feel about whatever the writers throw at her next (she doesn’t know) and getting to stop by another popular series, The Boys, for its series finale.
The first two seasons of Fallout are streaming on Prime Video.
