Henry Loevner and Steven Kanter premiered their first feature film as part of SXSW’s 2021 online edition, a fitting showcase for The End of Us, a comedy about a couple that breaks up just as COVID lockdowns begin and are forced to navigate their new normal with absolutely no space between them. They returned to SXSW – this time in person – in 2023 with their sophomore feature, Peak Season, an endearing look at two people meeting in an idyllic location and wondering whether they’re right for each other.
Awards Buzz spoke with Loevner and Kanter about using members of their first film’s cast and promoting them to lead roles for their second. Watch the video above to hear about filming in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and the kind of responses they’ve received to the film from audiences around the country.
Peak Season had its world premiere at the 2023 SXSW Film and TV Festival and opens in select theaters nationwide on Friday, August 2nd.
