In Hossein Molayemi and Shirin Sohani’s Oscar-nominated short film In the Shadow of the Cypress, a captain lives with his daughter by the sea and is suffering from PTSD at the same time as a whale washes up on shore, blending reality and imagination and encouraging a journey towards healing.
Awards Buzz spoke with Molayemi and Sohani about the conception of this story and the process of bringing it to life. Watch the video above to hear about their use of animation to convey complicated ideas and to mix external events with internal trauma.
