In the fifth and final season of The Boys, it’s the last standoff between good and evil as a long-in-the-works plan to kill Homelander for good is met with countless obstacles, betrayals, and blood-soaked deaths. This show, known for its crazy moments, goes even more all-out than ever before as it signs off for good.
Awards Buzz spoke with Karl Urban and Jack Quaid, who play Butcher and Hughie, about the evolution of their friendship since the start of the show. Quaid had warm words to share about Urban:
“Karl’s been there for me, for all of us, since day one. He’s been just an incredible friend and mentor, number one on the call sheet, making sure everybody’s doing okay. I feel like our friendship is genuine and translates to the screen. Thank god we enjoy each other’s company because we share so many scenes together and I feel that way with everyone really. It’s been wonderful to watch these characters grow and change, but also watch all of us as people, myself included, grow and change. It’s just been really the ride of a lifetime. It’s awesome.”
Urban spoke to the character traits of Butcher’s that he’s most inherited:
“For me, I always view the characters I play, to a certain extent, as extensions of myself in the regard that you’re just amplifying or modulating certain levels, but certainly, as the character of Butcher evolved through the seasons, there was a level of comfortability that I felt with the character, and he holds a very special part of in my heart, having lived his life for literally the last nine years. So, yeah, I feel very protective over him and just grateful to have to have been a part of this crazy show, and I can’t wait for the audiences to see the final season.”
