In Pluribus, an alien race assimilates almost the whole of humanity into a single hive mind – save for thirteen people. Among them is Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), who isn’t on board with the pleasant nature of this single shared consciousness and is resolute about finding a way to fight back. She’s assigned a chaperone in the form of Zosia (Karolina Wydra), who speaks to her as an individual voice representing a much larger collective.
Awards Buzz spoke with Wydra about what she’d miss most if she didn’t have her individuality:
‘‘The fascinating challenge for me with working on this character was not being able to play on my instincts as a full-fledged human being, having the spectrum, having all the feelings, but having only a limited amount of feelings, being unflappable, not mirroring her emotions, not going on an emotional ride with her, not being able to feel all the feelings that we get to feel. I think I would definitely miss that Individuality. I would incredibly miss the idea of never being surprised again, not laughing at a joke for the first time and not experiencing great art for the first time. So there’s a lot of things that I would definitely miss. But the challenges of not being able to fully express myself and allow my natural instinct as an actress come out of me but suppressing a lot of them to play the others was a wonderful challenge, and also what I did love that was a beautiful gift to my life is being in that constant state of content and peace and not being reactionary but holding space. I did a lot of meditation for that, a lot of meditation, daily meditation, to get in in that state of mind where the ego goes and you’re just more attuned with the world. It’s a very spiritual experience where you just feel one. You really do feel connected, and I do believe the Others, well, they are connected. They speak telepathically and all that. So it was an exciting and great journey, but yet there’s a lot of things that I would have missed if I was the Others.”
