Interview: Katherine Jackson on AI, Short Films, and ‘Attachment Theory’

In filmmaker Katherine Jackson’s short film Attachment Theory, Olive (Abby Damen) lives secluded from everyone else and the rest of the world, and her only contact is with a drone that delivers her medication. But when Olive doesn’t satisfy the drone’s desire for a positive rating, she starts to see the dark side of a powerful piece of technology designed for efficiency.

Awards Buzz spoke with Jackson about directing her first short film and what influenced her when she stepped behind the camera. Watch the video above to hear her take on the usefulness and dangers of artificial intelligence and technology.

Attachment Theory is currently in its Oscar-qualifying run this Friday 9/20 in the Bay Area at the Orinda Theatre. The film will screen next at the Sitges Festival in Spain and Beyond Fest in Los Angeles.
