Interview: Laz Alonso and Jensen Ackles on Mother’s Milk, Soldier Boy, and Their Wild Experiences on ‘The Boys’

In the fifth and final season of The Boys, it’s the last standoff between good and evil as a long-in-the-works plan to kill Homelander for good is met with countless obstacles, betrayals, and blood-soaked deaths. This show, known for its crazy moments, goes even more all-out than ever before as it signs off for good.

Awards Buzz spoke with Laz Alonso and Jensen Ackles, who play Mother’s Milk and Soldier Boy, respectively, about their strongest memories of the show, which for Ackles was actually when he first joined the cast:

“It was my first day on set showing up in nothing but a sock and meeting the whole cast and the whole crew and doing my scene in pretty much nothing. I felt very exposed, very vulnerable, but these guys were great and we got through it together. I’d seen both season one and season two prior to even having a conversation about coming on the show, so I was already a big fan of what Krip and these guys were doing. Coming in, to be honest, I was just nervous not to fuck it up. I wanted to bring as much as I possibly could just so I could service what was already a fantastic show. I will say that these guys are just absolute stellar human beings as well as fantastic actors, so to get to know them off-screen and then to get to work with them on-screen, it was certainly a dream for me.”

Alonso shared how Ackles joining the show also enhanced his character’s arc:

“Season three, I always say, that when Jensen came on, it really gave Mother’s Milk a whole new dimension to the fan base. You finally learned his backstory. You learn what makes him tick, why he’s the way he is, and his importance within the team, also elevated. So, it was a great season, it’s probably my favorite season, and we got to really explore that dynamic that took us all the way back to Harlem, which was very important for me to one day show as well.”

Season five of The Boys premieres on Wednesday, April 8th with new episodes dropping weekly through the series finale on May 20th.
