I’m thrilled to share an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming A24 film, a contemporary Western that promises to be both captivating and thought-provoking. Set in May 2020, the film delves into a tense standoff between a small-town sheriff, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, and the mayor, played by Pedro Pascal, in Eddington, New Mexico.
This conflict ignites a powder keg within the community, pitting neighbor against neighbor and bringing to the forefront a myriad of real-life issues that are often dismissed or overlooked in today’s world.
Directed by the visionary Ari Aster, this film is expected to be quite divisive as it unflinchingly tackles complex themes such as racism, inequality, rioting, a pandemic, murder framing, cultism, and envy. The exceptional cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Michael Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr., and William Belleau. I had the privilege of sitting down with Luke Grimes, Michael Ward, and Ari Aster for an in-depth discussion about the film.
