Interview: Mary Beth Barone on Gradually Showcasing Grace as an Endearing Part of ‘Overcompensating’

In Overcompensating, Benny (Benito Skinner) arrives at college and isn’t eager to share a part of himself – that he’s pretty sure he’s gay – with his new community, and latches on to Carmen (Wally Baram), who is going through her own issues, to find a way to feel like he fits in. Only midway through the season does Benny’s sister Grace (Mary Beth Barone) come into focus as a sympathetic character who’s dealing with a different set of challenges.

Awards Buzz spoke with Barone about working with Skinner and the chance to let her character open up later on. Watch the video above to hear her take on some of the season’s big moments and the redeemability of some of its players.

Season one of Overcompensating is now streaming on Prime Video.
