Interview: Sean Wang and Joan Chen on Getting Nostalgic and Relatable in ‘Dìdi’

Following his Oscar nomination for the documentary short Nai Nai & Wài Pó, filmmaker Sean Wang returns to narrative filmmaking with a coming-of-age story heavily inspired by his own upbringing as the child of a Taiwanese immigrant mother. Chris (Izaac Wang), known by his nickname Wang Wang, navigates social awkwardness and trying to fit in with his friends while not fully appreciating everything his hardworking mother Chungsing (Joan Chen) does for him.
