Interview: Sunita Mani and Zarna Garg on Making a Progressive, Culture-Enhancing Story in ‘A Nice Indian Boy’

In Roshan Sethi’s A Nice Indian Boy, Naveen (Karan Soni) doesn’t expect to find much happiness for himself as a gay man in his Indian community. But when he meets Jay (Jonathan Groff), who was adopted by Indian parents at a young age, things progress quickly, far too much so for Naveen, who isn’t eager to introduce the new important man in his life to his parents (Zarna Garg and Harish Patel) and his sister Arundhathi (Sunita Mani).

Awards Buzz spoke with Mani and Garg about the appeal of getting to play these characters in a film that doesn’t deal in antiquated stereotypes. Watch the video above to hear about Garg’s first experience as an actress and their reflections on working together to make this film.

A Nice Indian Boy opens in theaters on Friday, April 4th.
