SXSW Review: ‘The Astronaut’ is an Unnerving Story of Isolation with a Solid Kate Mara

In Chelsea Christer’s Out for Delivery, Joanna (Deanna Rooney) has received a terminal diagnosis, and has made the decision that she’ll order a medication that will allow her to end her life. But when the package is first delayed and then seemingly lost, she realizes that going out on her own terms won’t be so easy, especially when Mark (Martin Starr) arrives to collect what’s supposed to be her dead body.
Awards Buzz spoke with Christer and Starr about the inspiration for and appeal of this story. Watch the video above to hear about their own experiences and familiarity with the world of Medical Aid in Dying and how much they feel that plays a role in an otherwise very human story.
Out for Delivery makes its Texas premiere as part of the Narrative Short Competition at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival.
