Emmy Nominations 2026: Awards Buzz Staff React to the 78th Annual Emmy Awards

The Television Academy has put out its list of nominees for the 78th Annual Emmy Awards as of this morning. For the most part one could have seen a lot of nominations coming, but there were a fair few surprises in some of the categories that made for a pleasant surprise. As always, we do find ourselves wondering at times how some shows will always make an impression with the voters while others, even with a big network push and well-funded campaigns behind them, can not seem to breakthrough.

Then there is the matter of Paramount+ and Peacock; their ongoing struggles are hard to miss given the quality of series they have released, especially when they have been so well received by viewers. We will say it was nice to see that Peacock did get a bit more love this year, even though shows like The Burbs, Ponies, and Ted were largely ignored despite a large fan base. On the flip side, HBO continues doing what it does best by ruling the day, which is hardly surprising from the brand having this long standing history as an awards powerhouse.

Apple TV+ has notched up more nominations this year than ever before. It’s pretty hard to argue that Apple is making some of the finest television you will see today. Our only gripe is with how they are marketed. The shows they are creating tend to be high quality but many shows do not have the kind of profile outside the industry that they ought to. We can only hope that they figure out a way to get their shows out there into the world more.
