The first Wicked won this prize last year. Young Frankenstein, a very different take on the same story as Guillermo Del Toro’s film this year, was a finalist in 1974 for this race. Avatar won this award in 2009 and its sequel Avatar: The Way of Water was nominated in 2022. No Superman, Mission: Impossible, or Knives Out movies have been recognized in the past. Exactly one Marvel movie has been nominated in the past – Black Panther – which also won. The Critics Choice Association, which honors six films, selected The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, Sinners, and Wicked: For Good, awarding Frankenstein the prize.
