In the fifth and final season of The Boys, it’s the last standoff between good and evil as a long-in-the-works plan to kill Homelander for good is met with countless obstacles, betrayals, and blood-soaked deaths. This show, known for its crazy moments, goes even more all-out than ever before as it signs off for good.
Awards Buzz spoke with Colby Minifie, who plays Ashley, and Susan Heyward, who plays Sister Sage, about the wildest things their characters have done and their unexpected experiences being part of the show. Minifie certainly didn’t expect her character arc:
“I wasn’t even supposed to be back in season two! When I got this job, I was like, cool, she’s a publicist, she works hard, she goes crazy, she has an intense job. Cool. Little did I know she would end up looking like Gollum and end up in the position she’s in now at the start of season five with a superpower. Hugely grateful for all of that.”
Heyward shared what it was like to join the show midway through its run:
“This show lived up to all of my expectations and went far beyond them. I was a fan of the show, I religiously watched the first two seasons with my husband, and when I got the chance to join it, it was like a peek behind the curtain of just how hard everyone works to make this show as good as it is. So I knew I was going to have to work hard. They worked me as hard as they could, and I’m just glad I think I was able to keep up. I was afraid I was going to get fired every day. Every day I came to work and I was like, okay, so I guess today will be the day. Even on the last day, I was like, no one’s safe in this world. They’re going to be like, we gave you a season, kid. We’re actually cutting everything we filmed.”
Watch the video above to hear whether they’d want their characters playing for the other team and how they hope these roles follow them through their careers.
Season five of The Boys premieres on Wednesday, April 8th with new episodes dropping weekly through the series finale on May 20th.
