Ever since her 1997 Academy Award win for her outstanding performance in The English Patient, Juliette Binoche has continued to make waves as a remarkably versatile working actor in a wide variety of films. Best known for her beloved roles in such films as Chocolat, Dan In Real Life and The Return, the longtime French actress is now starring in a compassionate, new drama titled Queen at Sea, which was showcased last month at AFI Fest.
Directed by Lance Hammer and co-starring Tom Courtenay, Anna Calder-Marshall and Florence Hunt, Binoche plays Amanda in Queen at Sea, the mother of a teenage girl and the daughter of an elderly woman struggling with dementia. When Amanda and her stepfather have a serious dispute around the wellness of their ailing mother and wife, authorities get involved, which ultimately adds major tension and puts the overall safety of everybody in jeopardy.
We sat down with Binoche to discuss her latest film, which is starting to rollout in theaters nationwide from Greenwich Entertainment, on how she still finds ways to challenge herself as an actress at this stage of her career and reveals her greatest creative priorities in life today. She also reflects on her acting journey ever since her coveted Oscar win nearly 30 years ago.
Binoche shares, “Passion is always definitely any creative mean.” She goes on to share that she has been directing, singing and has a great interest in getting even further into the writing and editing processes around films soon. As for her work ethic today, she says, “I don’t stop because I still have this passion of creation.”
