Few television shows have enjoyed a second life quite like The Comeback. What began as a short-lived HBO comedy in 2005 has since become a beloved cult classic, its biting satire of fame, reality television, Hollywood, and now A.I., proving more prescient with each passing year.
For Dan Bucatinsky, the show’s legacy is inseparable from his decades-long friendship and creative partnership with Lisa Kudrow. Beyond playing publicist Billy Stanton, Bucatinsky has spent years collaborating with Kudrow across projects, giving him a unique perspective on both the character of Valerie Cherish and the creative instincts that made The Comeback endure long after its original run.
In conversation with Awards Buzz’s Shadan Larki, Bucatinsky reflects on his friendship with Kudrow, the lasting impact of The Comeback, saying goodbye to Valerie Cherish, and why she continues to resonate with audiences more than two decades after she first appeared on television.
