Emmy nominations will be announced on July 15th. We’re running down the top contenders in a number of categories and offering predictions!
Last year’s nominees: Two of the six won’t be back for sure: Larry David(Curb Your Enthusiasm), whose show has officially ended after twelve seasons, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs), whose show ended after three. Two-time defending champion Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Steve Martin (Only Murders in the Building), Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building), and Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows) could all be back.
Returning contenders: After his show took last season off, Jason Segel (Shrinking) is eligible again.
The rest: The likeliest men to knock out one of the five past nominees are Seth Rogen (The Studio), whose show premiered after midyear precursors, and Adam Brody (Nobody Wants This), who won the Critics Choice prize and earned nominations from the Golden Globes and SAG. Ted Danson (A Man on the Inside) was also cited by the Globes and SAG, while CCA opted for freshmen newcomers Brian Jordan Alvarez (English Teacher) and David Alan Grier (St. Denis Medical), as well as Berry’s costar Kayvan Novak (What We Do in the Shadows). Watch out for Steve Carell (The Four Seasons), who earned six consecutive nominations for The Office but never won, as well as the stars of two new shows, Benito Skinner (Overcompensating) and Luke Kirby (Étoile), whose show had its second season order reversed but still mounted an Emmy campaign. On the Only Murders in the Building front, it’s worth noting that Martin missed out for season two of his show while Short, who beat Martin at SAG this year, has been consistently nominated.
This year’s predicted nominees: Brody, Rogen, Segel, Short, White
