Emmy nominations will be announced on July 15th. We’re running down the top contenders in a number of categories and offering predictions!
Last year’s nominees: While none are eligible, the list was Lamorne Morris (Fargo), Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers), Robert Downey Jr. (The Sympathizer), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), John Hawkes (True Detective: Night Country), Lewis Pullman (Lessons in Chemistry), and Treat Williams (Feud: Capote vs. the Swans).
The field: The Golden Globes and SAG cited Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), and the Globes also nominated Diego Luna (La Máquina). The surest lock this year is young actor Owen Cooper (Adolescence), who will likely be joined by costar Ashley Walters (Adolescence). After that, the rest of the slate is less predictable. Well-received projects have a range of contenders including Nathan Lane (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Rhenzy Feliz (The Penguin), Wagner Moura (Dope Thief), Peter Sarsgaard (Presumed Innocent), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Disclaimer), Rob Delaney (Dying for Sex), Jay Duplass (Dying for Sex), Mark Duplass (Good American Family), and Jimmi Simpson (Black Mirror). Aside from musicals, it’s been a decade since an actor from a TV movie was nominated here, but maybe the involvement of Succession creator Jesse Armstrong will help Jason Schwartzman (Mountainhead), Cory Michael Smith (Mountainhead), or Ramy Youssef (Mountainhead). Nostalgia could also propel Hugh Grant (Bridget Jones: Mad about the Boy) to a nomination.
This year’s predicted nominees: Bardem, Cooper, Feliz, Lane, Sarsgaard, Walters
