In Lady in the Lake, Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) becomes obsessed with the murder of Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), a Baltimore woman found dead in the lake. As Maddie digs deeper and allows her journalistic ambition to continue fueling her drive, Cleo’s life is revealed in flashbacks that paint a much fuller and more complicated picture of events.
Awards Buzz spoke with creator and director Alma Har’el on working to adapt the book of the same name by Laura Lippman. Watch the video above to hear her take on incorporating cultural elements and whether certain references needed to be spelled out for viewers.
