Interview: André Holland and John Earl Jelks on Their Blistering Father-Son Dynamic in ‘Exhibiting Forgiveness’

In Exhibiting Forgiveness, painter Titus Kaphar makes his feature directorial debut with the story of Tarrell (André Holland), an artist struggling with the reappearance in his life of his estranged father, La’Ron (John Earl Jelks), and the harsh way in which he raised him.

Awards Buzz spoke with Holland and Jelks about how they approached their characters and their difficult relationship. Watch the video above to hear how they’re feeling months after the film’s Sundance premiere ahead of its theatrical release.

Exhibiting Forgiveness had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and opens in theaters on October 18th.
