In Austin Stark and Joseph Schuman’s film COUP!, it’s 1918 and the Spanish Flu is spreading like wildfire. Journalist JC Horton (Billy Magnussen) reports on events in New York City – all while living out this pandemic from the comfort of an isolated island. When he hires an eccentric new cook, Floyd Monk (Peter Sarsgaard), the balance of power begins to shift in interesting and unexpected ways.
Awards Buzz spoke with Stark and Schuman about how this film came to be during the COVID pandemic and the process of setting it a century in the past. Watch the video above to hear how they felt Magnussen and Sarsgaard were particularly right for their roles.
COUP! opens in theaters on Friday, August 2nd.
