Interview: Douglas Booth on Playing the Impossibly Charming and Stylish ‘Young Werther’

In José Avelino Gilles Corbett Lourenço’s Young Werther, based on the 1774 novel The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, playboy Werther (Douglas Booth) meets the girl of his dreams, Charlotte (Alison Pill), only to learn that she’s engaged, a point of contention that isn’t going to stop him from actively pursuing the woman he believes is right for him.

Awards Buzz spoke with Booth about what he knew of the original book and how he approached its anachronistic elements. Watch the video above to hear about how much he sees of Werther in himself, including his sense of style.

Young Werther premieres in theaters, on digital, and on demand Friday, December 13, 2024.
