In Erica Tremblay’s Fancy Dance, Jax (Lily Gladstone) is looking after her niece Roki (Isabel DeRoy-Olson) following her sister’s disappearance. While Roki is convinced that her mother is going to return, Jax isn’t quite so sure, and she’s willing to do anything she needs in order to protect Roki, even if that means going against the law.
Awards Buzz spoke with Tremblay about making her feature directorial debut and the chance to show Indigenous stories on screen. Watch the video above to hear about the experience of working with Gladstone, finding DeRoy-Olson, and premiering the film at Sundance.
