October 30, 2024On the final day of AFI Fest 2024, Glenn Close took center stage for the North American premiere of The Summer Book at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. She was joined by director Charlie McDowell and producers Alex Orlovsky and Duncan Montgomery for a screening and conversation about the film.
The premiere attracted other notable attendees, including Malcolm McDowell, Mary Steenburgen, and Ted Danson, adding to the star-studded event.
Based on Tove Jansson’s beloved 1972 novel, The Summer Book unfolds on a picturesque island in the Gulf of Finland. The story revolves around Close’s character as she navigates her relationship with her nine-year-old granddaughter, Sophia (played by Emily Matthews), following the death of Sophia’s mother. Throughout their time on the island, Close’s character endeavors to mend the rift between Sophia and her father (Anders Danielsen Lie), all while embracing the beauty of nature and confronting her own mortality.
During a red carpet interview with Awards Buzz, Glenn Close reflected on her earliest childhood memories and how they influenced her portrayal of this poignant character.
