While the story of Fellow Travelers centers on the decades-long relationship between Hawk (Matt Bomer) and Tim (Jonathan Bailey), there is an equally compelling focus on Marcus Gaines (Jelani Alladin), a Black reporter dealing with additional obstacles to the already toxic environment for gay men in the 1950s.
Awards Buzz spoke with Alladin about working to build this character who wasn’t featured in Thomas Mallon’s book and what felt important to include. Watch the video above to hear Alladin’s enthusiasm for a specific brand of coffee and a return to his theater roots.
