June 8, 2025In Jim Sheridan and David Merriman’s Re-creation, a jury deliberates in the murder case of Sophie Toscan Du Plantier, debating the guilt of the accused, Ian Bailey. This film is a thought experiment that takes its inspiration from 12 Angry Men, looking at what might have happened had this very real case actually been brought to trial in Ireland.
Awards Buzz spoke with directors Jim Sheridan and David Merriman about their own interest in the case and the decision to explore it in this format. Watch the video above to hear where they expect audiences to be coming from given that the Tribeca crowd may not be at all familiar with a very well-known piece of recent Irish history.
Re-creation makes its world premiere in the Spotlight Narrative section at the 2025 Tribeca Festival.
