Interview: Jon Bass on His Own Jewish Experiences and the Wild, Appealing Journey of ‘Bad Shabbos’

In Daniel Robbins’ Bad Shabbos, David (Jon Bass) arrives at the New York City apartment of his parents Richard (David Paymer) and Ellen (Kyra Sedgwick) with his fiancée Meg (Meghan Leathers), who is in the process of converting to Judaism and whose Catholic parents are joining them for Shabbat dinner. Family dynamics make for one very chaotic evening that deals with more than just religious observance divides.

Awards Buzz spoke with Bass about his own experiences growing up Jewish and celebrating Shabbat, which wasn’t particularly relevant in helping him prepare for the role. Watch the video above to hear about his castmates and the positive reception to the film on the festival circuit.

Bad Shabbos opens in New York City on May 23rd followed by LA and select cities on June 6th.
