Interview: June Squibb on Taking the Lead in the Great Action-Comedy ‘Thelma’

Almost forty years after earning her first screen credit, June Squibb is still going strong ahead of turning ninety-five this November. The Oscar-nominated actress from Nebraska has the very rare opportunity for anyone her age to anchor the hilarious comedy Thelma, in which she plays a woman who gets scammed and is determined to get her money back rather than be told that she’s losing it.

Awards Buzz spoke with Squibb about the chance to step into the lead with this role and whether she’d be friends with Thelma in real life. Watch the video above to hear about highlights from her career, the advice she’d offer newcomers to the industry, and other takeaways from an incredible run that’s not over yet.

Thelma made its premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and is now available no demand.
