In Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths, he reunites with the stars of his Oscar-nominated 1996 film Secrets & Lies. Pansy (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) is eternally on edge, seemingly happy with no one around her, while her sister Chantelle (Michele Austin) exhibits a much more optimistic outlook on life as they both prepare for the difficult five-year anniversary of their mother’s death.
Awards Buzz spoke with Leigh, Jean-Baptiste, and Austin about collaborating again and the unique process in which Leigh makes his films. Watch the video above to hear about how they tackled their characters and how audiences have responded to them and to the film.
