Interview: Mohammad Rasoulof on Morality and Oppression in ‘The Seed of the Sacred Fig’

Filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof directs one of the most potent and haunting films of the year with The Seed of the Sacred Fig, which runs nearly three hours and tells the story of an investigating judge and his family in Iran. Though it wasn’t submitted by the country of Iran as its Oscar submission for Best International Feature, The Seed of the Sacred Fig will be representing Germany if it’s nominated.

Awards Buzz spoke with Rasoulof about his own experiences that motivated the desire to explore this particular facet of contemporary Iranian society. Watch the video above to hear about safeguarding the cast and his desire for people to widely view the film.
