Interview: Morgan Spector on Playing a Man of the Times in ‘The Gilded Age’

In the HBO series The Gilded Age, now in its second season, George Russell (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) are wealthy members of high society in late 1800s New York City, but they are still made to feel like outcasts because they’re not like their neighbors who have lived and been part of their community for years. As they strive to become accepted and just as prosperous socially as they are financially, the Russells will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

Awards Buzz spoke with Spector about how he views George and whether he’s a good man or just someone taking advantage of the opportunities afforded to someone like him at the time. Watch the video above to hear how he feels about shooting with luxurious sets, lavish customers, and terrific Broadway actors surrounding him.

Morgan Spector is eligible for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at this year’s Emmy Awards. Seasons one and two of The Gilded Age are available to stream on HBO.
