Interview: Ondi Timoner on Making Documentaries Audiences Haven’t Seen Before with ‘All God’s Children’ and ‘The Inn Between’

Filmmaker Ondi Timoner was on the Oscar shortlist two years ago for her documentary feature Last Flight Home, which follows her father Eli as he prepares for his death. She’s currently on the festival circuit with two new films. All God’s Children spotlights her sister, Rabbi Rachel Timoner, and her partnership with Reverend Dr. Robert Waterman as they form an interfaith community in Brooklyn, while The Inn Between looks at the residents and employees of the only hospice for the homeless in America, located in Salt Lake City.

Awards Buzz spoke with Timoner about what subjects speak to her and what it’s like to film her own family. Watch the video above to hear about navigating the complexities of the topics she covers and the rewards of following them through to see what emerges from creative endeavors.

All God’s Children is screening as DOC NYC’s Centrepiece selection. The Inn Between had its world premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival on October 18th.
