In Presumed Innocent, prosecutor Rusty Sabich (Jake Gyllenhaal) is devasted to learn of the violent death of his colleague and mistress Carolyn Polhemus (Renate Reinsve). While some give him the benefit of the doubt and can’t believe he could have killed her, that’s not the case with prosecutor Tommy Molto (Peter Sarsgaard), who is convinced of his guilt and is set on making sure he pays for what he’s done.
Awards Buzz spoke with Sarsgaard about how Tommy shouldn’t be perceived as the villain but instead the person who sees the obvious facts of the case and is taking the only responsible course of action. Watch the video above to hear what it’s like collaborating once again with his brother-in-law Gyllenhaal and playing such adversarial characters.
Season one of Presumed Innocent is streaming on Apple TV+.
