In James Griffiths’ The Ballad of Wallis Island, disgruntled musician Herb McGwyer (Tom Basden) shows up on a small island expecting to perform to a large crowd, only to discover that he’s been hired to do a show for one man only, the eccentric Charles (Tim Key). Worse still, Herb finds out that Charles has also invited his old partner Nell (Carey Mulligan) for a reunion concert he definitely has no desire to play.
Awards Buzz spoke with Basden, Key, and Griffiths about the 2007 short that they revisited to make this film. Watch the video above to hear about how Basden and Key in particular relate to their characters and what they like most about them.
