About “They Fight”

Based on the 2018 documentary of the same name, They Fight is a gripping boxing drama that follows Walt Manigan (Andre Holland), a reformed ex-con determined to reintegrate into society and reconnect with the mother of his toddler son, Ketta, played by Samira Wiley. Set in Southeast Washington, the narrative explores Walt’s narrow path toward redemption as he seeks the stability of work, shelter, and sobriety. His journey takes a pivotal turn after a chance encounter with Peanut, a young boy in need of protection, which draws Walt back to the boxing gym—a place he thought he had left behind.

In this moving true story, Walt finds his purpose by coaching a motley crew of teenage boys at a local D.C. youth gym, a mission that eventually leads to two young best friends facing off at the National Championship. Following its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 8th, 2026, the film officially launched on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ today, July 17th, 2026.
