Winners List: 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards Night Two

If there’s one thing we’ve established over the weekend, it’s that the Creative Arts Emmys are the “real Emmys”— a sentiment made by Maya Rudolph on night one, and echoed by Sarah Silverman at the top of the show on night two.

While Silverman did not take home any awards for her special Sarah Silverman: PostMortem, she won over the crowd with a few explicit words and her usual charm while on stage.

On Sunday, September 7, the show at the Peacock Theater saw some heavy favorites and exciting wins. The Daily Show’s Desi Lydic took home two Emmys this weekend. Saturday, the Foxsplains host won for Outstanding Performer in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series, and Sunday, she beat out The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon, Late Night’s Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Kimmel, taking top honors in the Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series category.

Jimmy Kimmel did win for Outstanding Host For A Game Show for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. In his speech, Kimmel reminisced about winning his first Emmy 27 years ago for Win Ben Stein’s Money—the first game show he ever hosted. Awards Buzz asked Kimmel backstage if there was anything he’d like to host that he hasn’t yet. “A seder,” he replied, garnering laughs.

Kimmel, in classic self-deprecating style, went on to recount the “very, very, very surprising” moment he won an Emmy for Win Ben Stein’s Money—a show that, at the time, felt more like a well-kept secret than an awards contender. “Comedy Central was not a channel that many people watched,” he says, noting they debuted the same week as South Park and were up against game show giants like Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.

Recognition was rare—“maybe once a month”—so when they actually won, it felt absurd, historic even: “I think it was the first Emmy Comedy Central had ever won.” But the highlight of the night? Spotting Susan Lucci, who had infamously lost an Emmy 15 years in a row. So, naturally, Kimmel walked up, handed her the statue, and said what everyone was thinking: this makes no sense. “She later gave it back,” he deadpans. “She rejected it.” TSA, however, knew greatness when they saw it. “Are you the guy who gave Susan Lucci the Emmy last night?” one agent asked. Kimmel replied, “Yes, I’m that guy.” And yes—he still has the Emmy.

Alan Cumming also shared his thoughts backstage as he won Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality Competition Program for The Traitors. The show, that is now a worldwide phenomenon, took home four awards on Sunday night. SNL50 won seven, Pee-wee as Himself won three, SNL won three, the 67th Annual Grammy Awards (who couldn’t be there) won two, and 100 Foot Wave, and Love on the Spectrum also took home two awards respectively.

The Creative Arts Emmys will air on FXX Saturday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m., and will be available to stream on Hulu until Oct. 7. The Primetime Emmys will air on Sept. 14 on CBS and Paramount+
