Interview: Ron Perlman on Coming Back for More of ‘The Capture’ and His Love for the Work He Gets to Do

In season three of The Capture, Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger) has risen in the ranks and is now in charge of the operation designed to combat Correction. When a new threat emerges, she turns to someone she hasn’t always liked but knows she can trust: CIA Section Chief Frank Napier (Ron Perlman).

Awards Buzz spoke with Perlman about how Frank, unlike much of this show, doesn’t tend to deceive those he’s speaking to, giving them the blunt, honest truth instead:

“Well, to the degree that it works in his favor. You think because he’s so candid and because he’s a shoot from the hip kind of guy that he’s giving you everything he has, but he’s only giving you what he wants you to have and he’s keeping the rest for himself for another day. That’s part of the charm of the character, the duplicity, the duality, all the dos, the dos and the don’ts.”

He praised the industry he’s in for giving him different opportunities and allowing him to play characters who have skill sets and lived experiences far beyond his own:

“Well, the great thing about acting is that you only have to look like you know what you’re talking about. I made everybody believe I rode a motorcycle for six seasons and I never did. Sorry to give away trade secrets, but, yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. The beautiful thing about the business is the variety of it all. One day, you’re getting to play this guy who was a Vietnam veteran who came back to an ungrateful nation and formed his own sovereign nation in this motorcycle club and the next day you’re playing the guy who’s running the CIA in the UK and who’s come up from the lowest places in the military all the way up to the most elite. Getting to study those two types of characters is, I say this in other interviews, but some people do crossword puzzles. I’m an actor, because the whole thing’s a puzzle to me and it’s something that I’m obsessed with every day and grateful that I get still get a chance to do it.”

The first three seasons of The Capture are streaming on Peacock.
