Actor Awards TV Nominations Predictions

Nominations for the 32st Annual Actor Awards (formerly Screen Actors Guild Awards) will be announced on Wednesday, January 7th. Abe Friedtanzer, Scott Menzel, and Shadan Larki from the Awards Buzz team came together to offer insight and predictions for the television categories.

The drama categories will likely be a battle between hot new show The Pitt, which took home the Emmy for Best Drama Series, and returning series Severance, which contended for its first season three years ago. Another brand-new series, Pluribus, should net lead actress Rhea Seehorn a nomination, with only two medium-profile shows, The Diplomat and Slow Horses, possible as returning ensemble nominees from last year. Three other shows nominated last time they were eligible – The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, and The Last of Us – face tough competition this time around as well as more tepid receptions for their latest seasons.

The comedy categories are less exciting in that all but one of last year’s nominated shows – Shrinking – is eligible again, and The Studio will easily grab that vacant slot. Will this otherwise be a repeat of the same names from last year, or is the new membership of SAG-AFTRA less inclined to endorse the same shows and actors year after year? Can Nobody Wants This crack the comedy ensemble category, and is The Bear still going to make the mark? Also, what to make of the surprise wins for Only Murders in the Building and star Martin Short last year – is the show going to perform well again for its fifth season?

The limited series categories are sure to be dominated by Adolescence, with Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, and Erin Doherty all but guaranteed to place. Aside from that, Dying for Sex and All Her Fault seem like solid bets for their lead actresses, but it’s unclear how other shows like Monster: The Ed Gein Story, Black Rabbit, and Black Mirror will fare. Can Renée Zellweger become only the fourth star of a TV movie to be nominated in the last five years?

Watch the video below for answers to – or at least discussion – all these questions and more, and leave your thoughts in the comments!
