Emmy nominations will be announced on July 15th. We’re running down the top contenders in a number of categories and offering predictions!
Last year’s nominees: None of last year’s nominated shows were on this season, and Claire Foy’s inclusion was actually enough to prompt a rule changing making those who have previously been nominated in the supporting or lead categories ineligible for the guest acting races.
Past nominees: Previously nominated for two different season two episodes split over two Emmy seasons (she won’t for the latter), Cherry Jones (The Handmaid’s Tale) is once again on the ballot this year for the show’s final season. Past winner Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) is in the supporting category, and past winner Carrie Preston (The Good Wife) is in the lead category for the same role in Elsbeth.
The rest: For its first season, The Last of Us received three nominations in this category, and Kaitlyn Dever (The Last of Us) and Catherine O’Hara (The Last of Us) are almost certain to be nominated this time. Likely candidates to join them are Gwendoline Christie (Severance), Merritt Wever (Severance), and Hilary Swank (Yellowjackets). Past main cast members Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets) and Simone Kessell (Yellowjackets) may earn their first nominations this year here, while a past nominee for a very different project, D’Arcy Carden (The Handmaid’s Tale), is a possibility too.
This year’s predicted nominees: Christie, Dever, Jones, O’Hara, Swank, Wever What are your predictions for this category? Leave a comment and stick around for other major races!
