Emmy nominations will be announced on July 15th. We’re running down the top contenders in a number of categories and offering predictions!
Last year’s nominees: While none are eligible, the list was Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country), Brie Larson (Lessons in Chemistry), Juno Temple (Fargo), Sofia Vergara (Griselda), and Naomi Watts (Feud: Capote vs. the Swans).
The field: Cristin Milioti (The Penguin) and Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer) were all nominated by the Golden Globes, SAG, and Critics Choice Association. Phoebe Ray-Taylor (Out of My Mind) was also nominated by CCA. From the first half of the season, Ari Graynor (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Natalie Portman (Lady in the Lake), and Moses Ingram (Lady in the Lake) are all possibilities. There are a handful of high-profile contenders from this calendar year, including Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex), Amanda Seyfried (Long Bright River), Jessica Biel (The Better Sister), Betty Gilpin (American Primeval), Meghann Fahy (Sirens), Rashida Jones (Black Mirror), and Ellen Pompeo (Good American Family). Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing) is also possible, as is Kaitlyn Dever (Apple Cider Vinegar), who could benefit from buzz from her other role this season on The Last of Us. The last star of a TV movie to be nominated in this category was Laura Dern back in 2018, which makes things statistically tougher for Viola Davis (G20) and Dakota Johnson (Am I OK?).
