Emmy nominations will be announced on July 15th. We’re running down the top contenders in a number of categories and offering predictions!
Last year’s nominees: Last year’s winner, Slow Horses, is the only show eligible to return this year.
Returning contenders: The White Lotus won the limited series writing prize for its first season and was nominated here for season two, along with season one episodes of Andor, Bad Sisters, and The Last of Us. The season one finales of Severance and Squid Game were nominated in this category.
Past nominees: Yellowjackets scored two nominations for its first season but none for its second. The Handmaid’s Tale won this prize for season one and received three subsequent nominations. The Boys received a lone nomination for its season two finale.
The field: This category gets an extra nominee from last year, back up to six. Single episode submissions by a show always seem to improve the odds, which gives an edge this year to Full-Moon Party (The White Lotus), Cold Harbor (Severance), Welcome to the Rebellion (Andor), Dreadnought (The Diplomat), Hello Goodbye (Slow Horses), and Through the Valley (The Last of Us), and could also help Bread and Lottery (Squid Game), Episode 1 (The Day of the Jackal), Episode 1 (Dept. Q), Wildcat is Down (Paradise), Pilot (Matlock), This is How It Happens (Your Friends and Neighbors), How to Pick a Prick (Bad Sisters), and Out of the Shadows (Bridgerton). There should be some room made for one or multiple of these three episodes of the hottest new show of the year: 7:00 A.M. (The Pitt), 10:00 A.M. (The Pitt), and 2:00 P.M. (The Pitt). Other possibilities include Full Circle (Yellowjackets), Them’s the Brakes (Yellowjackets), and The Handmaid’s Tale (The Handmaid’s Tale).
This year’s predicted nominees: Welcome to the Rebellion (Andor), Through the Valley (The Last of Us), 7:00 A.M. (The Pitt), Cold Harbor (Severance), Hello Goodbye (Slow Horses), Full-Moon Party (The White Lotus)
