In Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Margo (Elle Fanning) has to figure out a plan when she gets pregnant and the father (Michael Angarano) has no interest in being involved, leading her to lean on support from her newly-engaged mother Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and ex-wrestler father Jinx (Nick Offerman) while seeking financial opportunity through an unexpected source: OnlyFans.
Awards Buzz spoke with Pfeiffer and Greg Kinnear, who plays Shyanne’s new fiancé Kenny, about whether this relationship actually feels pretty pure. Pfeiffer shared an optimistic approach:
“I think initially to everyone it appears as if they are not a good match and maybe I would think the odds were not in their favor but I think as it evolves episode after episode and you get to know Kenny a little more and you get to know Shyanne a little more, in a way, they are meant for each other and I think you begin to actually root for them as a couple. You could see how they actually complement each other.”
Kinnear praised the show’s layered writing and also the work they did on set:
“I didn’t know what to expect, because so much of how Kenny is going to be perceived is through the eyes of Shyanne. It’s how Michelle is maneuvering this, so it’s like a dance and she’s leading the dance. It was lovely because, in my greatest hope, you just didn’t want it to be the obvious trope. He’s this third wheel of a guy. I felt like the show really manages to avoid that. They manage this relationship earnestly and with vulnerability between both of them. And dignity. It was really lovely, the way all that was managed and much of it on set, I think. It was a beautiful script, well-written, but part of this is something you do when you’re there.”
