Interview: Alycia Debnam-Carey on the Role of Social Media in ‘Apple Cider Vinegar’ and ‘It’s What’s Inside’

In the limited series Apple Cider Vinegar, Belle Gibson (Kaitlyn Dever) cons the world into thinking that she’s been diagnosed with and subsequently cured from several forms of cancer, catapulting her to great success as an influencer. Along the way, Milla Blake (Alycia Debnam-Carey), who is actually suffering, sees through the lies Belle is telling and is desperate for anyone to listen.

Awards Buzz spoke with Debnam-Carey about constructing the fictional character of Milla and what she took as inspiration for the part. Watch the video above to hear about her work in another Emmy-eligible project, the TV movie It’s What’s Inside, as a very different character equally consumed by social media.

Apple Cider Vinegar and It’s What’s Inside are both streaming on Netflix.
